First Cassette (single) (1991): Bell Biv Devoe, Poison
First Cassette (album) (1992): Double Purchase of Bon Jovi’s Keep the Faith (I bought it for Bed of Roses) and Nirvana’s Nevermind. I had just discovered Columbia House Records, but could only afford the tapes.
First CD (1990): I’m embarassed to say that I think it was the Madonna Soundtrack to the movie Dick Tracy. It was the one Madonna album my feminist mom was ok with us owning.
First Record (7 inch) (1993): Tapeworm (my friend’s NYC Hardcore band)
First Record (Album) (1994): Dead Kennedys, Give me Convenience or Give Me Death
First Download (1999): Velvet Underground, The Velvet Underground & Nico. I too had just discovered Napster, and was totally blown away at the amount of music I could get for free.
