Actually, fashion *won't* win this election.
OK, so. As much as I love Michelle Obama, and would prefer her as a role model over Cindy any day (hello law degree VS. can’t move your face), there was a piece in NY Newsday at the end of last week that has a really good point – wtf the only women we’re talking about now are the wives and what we’re saying about them only has to do with fashion. I love clothes as much as the next person, and will gladly embrace Michelle as my own personal style guru. But. The reason I like her is because she is opinionated, smart, and says all the shit that most other public figures, let alone first ladies, are too scared to say. Let’s not take that away from her by focusing on what rack she got her dress off of. And you know what? Fuck this only women we talk about are the wives of politicians. Let’s get some other women up in this race (VPs, appointees, whatever works best) so that we get away from the whole even-though-it’s-2008-women-still-are-only-getting-into-the-oval-office-via-marriage thing.
